The Spective OR goals for this jam/game
I am creating this game for a few reasons.
1. I have been working on a few stressful projects and I need a palette cleanser.
2. I've been itching to make a game for a jam.
3. I want to get better at programming and using renpy/python.
4. I want to release a game that is finished and polished. My creative energies are restless and must be appeased.
With that in mind, I have some goals!
> I want to make something that is elegant. This is a change from a lot of my work, which generally veers towards goofy, campy, and casual. My goal is for this to feel like it comes from a very specific, put-upon, and formal voice (Quackerton herself). Additionally, this extends to the game design itself. I'm pulling assets from old books and public domain paintings to get a more practiced and precise feel. Plus, pulling them adheres to the jam and means that I amn't going to have to make them myself - woohoo!
> I want to learn some renpy things! I want to learn how to move dialogue boxes in renpy (better than i know now). I want to learn how to make the game playable in-browser. (See https://lazytigermade.itch.io/stevensnextthing for a great example that I will be referencing myself throughout the process.)
> I want to make something tiny and complete. I have so many large projects floating around without clear goals, but, and this is tragic, i love goals. I love deadlines. The jam helps with this problem! I have about a week to get this thing done and dusted. And so I shall!
> I want to learn how to use tools like ink and twine and yarn. This is a soft goal for this jam, as that's a lot for one week, but if I can do it that'd be fantastic.
> bonus goal: I want to publish my process and do an actual retrospective once it is over. Since the pandemic, I have been doing thing after thing after thing without looking back. So now I'm promising myself to look back and go over what happened afterwards.
Professor Quackerton is a character I doodled sometime around summer 2020, and she made me laugh. Not a lot of things were making me laugh summer of 2020, so she has a special place in my heart. I'm excited to make this for her.
I'm also excited to make this for me.
See you.
